Two Accidents on Busway Tracks in Casablanca

In a recent statement, the local development company “Casa Transport” warned of a series of accidents occurring in Casablanca, attributed to drivers’ failure to respect busway lanes. Since the launch of these buses at the beginning of March, two accidents have been recorded, highlighting the urgency of greater vigilance on the roads.

The official inauguration of the “Busway” buses in Casablanca, which took place on March 1, 2024, marked the beginning of a new era in urban transport. These buses have been deployed to serve two key lines connecting different areas of the city, providing a convenient and efficient transport alternative.

However, despite the safety measures put in place, the Casablanca Transport company reported that negligent drivers were the cause of these incidents. Indeed, the latter have been involved in collisions with buses by not observing traffic rules, in particular by using lanes reserved for these buses.

The figures published by the company are alarming. Since the start of 2024 until March 4, no less than 70 road accidents have been recorded on lines one and two of the Casablanca tramway. This figure represents a significant increase compared to the previous year, when 261 accidents were reported in 2023.

Faced with this worrying situation, Chada Tayeb, communications manager at Casablanca Transport, stressed the crucial importance of respecting road safety measures. She called on drivers to strictly adhere to traffic laws and avoid driving on busway lanes.

This series of accidents highlights the need for increased awareness and rigorous enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users in Casablanca.
