A new face for the cities of Morocco in 2025
Morocco is beginning a major urban transformation. Several cities, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior, have adopted measures aimed at unifying the colors of building facades, particularly in areas hosting international events such as the CAN and the World Cup.
Cities affected include Oujda, where a regulation now requires beige or cream facades, with gray doors and brown windows. The measure applies to all buildings, whether located on major arteries or in secondary neighborhoods.
Similar initiatives nationally
In Casablanca, a project was launched to harmonize the colors and designs of the facades of cafes and restaurants, in order to reflect a coherent and modern aesthetic. In Salé, the houses in the medina have been repainted white, and a project aimed at standardizing the awnings of businesses is underway.
In the Fez-Meknes region, a decree requires matte white paint for the facades of buildings, while in the neighboring town of Sefrou, the authorities have decided to apply white facades with light gray doors and windows.
Aesthetic and strategic objectives
These measures aim to beautify Moroccan cities, preserve their architectural heritage and meet the expectations of residents and tourists. They are also part of the Kingdom’s preparations to host major sporting and cultural events, thus strengthening its attractiveness on the international scene.
Local authorities consider these initiatives an essential step to modernize urban spaces while promoting the unique cultural characteristics of each region.
