A Tragic Wedding in Casablanca: More than 40 People Victims of Food Poisoning

On the night of Monday to Tuesday, a wedding in El-Hraouiyine, Casablanca, turned into a tragedy when more than 40 people were victims of food poisoning. The incident occurred after the consumption of a dish of “bastilla”, causing severe symptoms among the guests.

Emergency services were called early in the morning to manage the situation. 26 people were admitted to Sidi Othmane hospital, including one in intensive care. A 3-year-old child was transferred to Al-Harouchi hospital for specialized treatment.

The Sidi Othmane hospital experienced a high number of cases due to food poisoning, prompting the mobilization of medical teams. In parallel, the national police opened an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to determine the causes of this incident.

Initial investigations indicate that the “bastilla” served at the event may have caused the poisoning. Authorities are reviewing food preparation and storage practices to prevent future incidents.

The victims’ families are expressing their concern over this tragic event. Local authorities have recommended increased vigilance regarding food safety to prevent such situations during large gatherings.
