Adoption by the Government Council of a draft decree on the protection and prevention of floods and the management of related risks

Rabat – The Government Council, meeting on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, adopted draft decree No. 2.23.80 on the protection and prevention of floods and the management of related risks.
Presented by the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, this text is part of the application of the provisions of Law No. 36.15 on water, in particular its articles ranging from 117 to 123 , and which devotes a large part to the protection and prevention of floods, to their detection and monitoring systems, as well as to the management and monitoring of flood events, indicated the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament , government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas during a press briefing after the Council, adding that this project aims to define the modalities of implementation of the provisions of the aforementioned articles.
This draft decree includes four chapters devoted respectively to the authorization of the installation of barriers, structures and other equipment likely to prevent the circulation of flood waters in flood-prone areas, to plans for preventing their risks, to the ‘Atlas of flood zones and the detection and monitoring of flood risks and the management of their events, he said.
The minister further indicated that the Council decided to postpone the examination of draft decree no. 2.23.725 modifying and supplementing decree no. 2-18-738 of November 30, 2018 (22 Rabii I 1440) relating to creation of the Souss-Massa export free zone, presented by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, on behalf of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, with a view to enriching its content .
