Airport Modernization: A New Era of Efficiency Serving Travelers in Morocco
Airports are often travelers’ first and last contact with a country. Thus, it is essential to provide a smooth and efficient experience. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has underlined its commitment to improving airport services in Morocco, with an emphasis on reducing waiting times, both upon arrival and departure.
Collaboration for a More Enjoyable Experience
The National Airports Office (ONDA) works closely with its partners to optimize processes, particularly during peak periods, such as summer holidays. This coordination aims to guarantee optimal reception conditions for travelers. Security and customs authorities are increasing their workforce, while ONDA supervises airline handling service providers.
Lean Six Sigma approach
The ministry has implemented the Lean Six Sigma approach in several Moroccan airports, including Mohammed V in Casablanca, Fez, and Oujda. This modern methodology aims to control the time spent by travelers in airports. The results are already visible, with a significant reduction in waiting times at passport control and baggage delivery points.
SOAM System for Effective Management
A multi-platform system, called SOAM, has been adopted in several Moroccan airports, including Casablanca, Rabat-Salé, Fez, Oujda, Nador, Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier, and others. This system provides real-time information to stakeholders in the airport value chain, facilitating planning and optimal use of resources.
Concrete Results
Thanks to these measures, waiting times at Moroccan airports were considered satisfactory in 2023. Here are the average waiting times at certain airports:
Marrakech Airport: Arrival: Approximately 25 minutes. Departure: Around 35 minutes. Casablanca Mohammed V Airport: Departure: 25 minutes. Arrival: 35 minutes.
Improvements were also seen at Ouarzazate airport, where arrival waiting times were reduced thanks to better coordination with security authorities.
In conclusion, the efforts made by the government and ONDA have made it possible to optimize airport services in Morocco, offering travelers a more pleasant and efficient experience.
