Alert in Tiznit: Increase in Cases of Food Poisoning

Tragedy has struck the town of Tiznit as the death toll from food poisoning reached 36 people, according to local sources. Health authorities report that 17 people are currently hospitalized in the regional hospital, with another person being treated at Hassan II hospital in Agadir. Among the victims are women and children.

The incident led the Tiznit prosecutor’s office to order an immediate investigation, entrusting the judicial police forces with the mandate to determine the exact circumstances of this mass poisoning. Samples of the suspect meals were taken from the local snack bar on the market square, as well as biological samples from patients treated at the regional hospital, all sent for analysis to the regional laboratories of the Ministry of Health and to the National Office for Food Safety.

The recent tragedy recalls an earlier warning issued to the fast food establishment in question, after unfit ground meat and turkey were seized during an inspection last February. This raises questions about the effectiveness of control and surveillance measures for fast food establishments, crucial to avoid such violations potentially dangerous to public health.

The ongoing investigation is crucial to determining responsibility and preventing future health crises. Local authorities continue to closely monitor the situation, with a commitment to inform the public of further developments.
