Back to School 2024-2025: Good news for Moroccan families

Morocco’s Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports recently announced a series of groundbreaking measures aimed at easing the financial burden on Moroccan families when it comes to their children’s education. The move, which is part of the National Initiative for Human Development, promises to transform the country’s educational landscape.

At the heart of this reform is the new version of the royal initiative “One Million Schoolbags”. This ambitious program is expected to benefit more than 3.053 million students across the kingdom. Such a scale demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring access to education for all young Moroccans, regardless of their economic situation.

One of the key measures of this initiative is the allocation of additional funds to families benefiting from the direct social support system. For primary and secondary school cycles, financial aid of 200 dirhams will be granted. This measure aims to cover a significant part of school-related costs, such as the purchase of school supplies and textbooks.

In an unprecedented move, the ministry has extended this aid to the qualifying secondary cycle. Eligible families will receive a subsidy of 300 dirhams for students at this level. This extension demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting education up to the higher levels, recognizing the importance of a comprehensive education for the country’s future.

Comprehensive support for inclusive education

Beyond direct financial assistance, the ministry also announced significant improvements in other crucial areas of education. Boarding services, for example, are expected to see an impressive 9.5% increase in beneficiaries, reaching over 147,000 students. This expansion in accommodation capacity is particularly important for students in rural or remote areas, allowing them to access quality education without the constraints of distance.

School transportation is not left out of this comprehensive initiative. Nearly 639,000 students, 58% of whom are girls, will benefit from transportation services. This measure is crucial to reduce absenteeism and school dropout, particularly in regions where access to schools can be difficult.

In an effort to stabilize textbook prices, the government has taken a bold decision. It will subsidize 25% of the sale price of textbooks for primary and secondary school cycles. This measure aims to ease the financial burden on families while encouraging school enrollment. It also reflects a deep understanding of the economic challenges facing many Moroccan families.

The Ministry launched a vibrant appeal to all stakeholders in the education sector, inviting them to mobilize for the implementation of these ambitious reforms.
