Bird Forces Cancellation of RAM Flight

Friday evening, a Royal Air Maroc (RAM) Boeing plane, registered CN-ROJ, hit a bird when landing at Dakhla airport, causing the cancellation of its return flight scheduled for Saturday morning. This incident, which damaged a radar on the plane, marks the third accident of this type in less than two weeks for Moroccan planes.

Major Damage and Flight Cancellation

The plane, damaged at one of its front radars, was unable to make its return flight. Passengers were informed of the cancellation of the flight scheduled for the following morning. This incident, reported by the specialized page “Moroccan Aviation”, highlighted recurring aviation safety problems.

A Series of Disturbing Incidents

This event is the third in less than two weeks involving bird strikes. The repetition of these incidents raises questions about the prevention measures put in place by the National Airports Office (ONDA). The effectiveness of current devices to keep birds away from flight zones seems to be increasingly doubted.

Prevention Measures and Responsibilities

To avoid these collisions, airports use various means such as sound devices to scare away birds, management of surrounding habitats and advanced detection systems. However, the increase in incidents in Morocco indicates that improvements are needed. ONDA is called upon to strengthen its protocols and invest in innovative technologies to ensure flight safety.

Consequences for the Company and Passengers

For Royal Air Maroc, this incident not only generates additional costs for repairs but also disruptions for passengers, potentially affecting the reputation of the company. Close collaboration with ONDA will be crucial to improve security measures and prevent future incidents.

Bird strikes represent a constant challenge for global aviation. The incident in Dakhla highlights the need for increased vigilance and continued improvement of aviation safety practices in Morocco. Authorities and airlines must step up efforts to ensure flight safety and minimize the risk of similar accidents in the future.
