The expectations of 67% of wholesalers show stability in the overall sales volume for the 2nd quarter of 2024, and an increase according to 20% of them, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

This development would be mainly attributable, on the one hand, to the expected increase in sales in “Wholesale of household goods” and “Wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco products” and, on the other hand, to the expected drop in sales in “Wholesale of information and communication equipment” and “Other specialized wholesale trade”, explains the HCP in its information note on the quarterly economic surveys carried out to companies operating in the non-financial market services and wholesale sectors.

Orders planned for the 2nd quarter of 2024 would be at a normal level according to 81% of business leaders. Employment would see stable numbers according to 76% of wholesalers, and an increase according to 17%.

In the 1st quarter of 2024, sales in the wholesale sector on the local market would have experienced stability according to 47%, and a decline according to 29% of wholesalers.

This development would be mainly attributable, on the one hand, to the drop in sales in “Other specialized wholesale trade” and “Wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals” and, on the other hand, to the increase in sales in “Wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco” and “Wholesale of other industrial equipment”.

Employment would have experienced stability according to 85% of business leaders, and an increase according to 13%.

Concerning stocks of goods, they would have been at a normal level according to 88% of wholesalers and the observed trend in sales prices would have shown stability, according to 62% of business leaders and a decline according to 21% of them. .
