Court of Perpignan: “Yes I am married, but I forgot my wife’s name”

Here is the strange story of a man who seems to suffer from selective amnesia and yet who really has consistent ideas.

This October 7, Housseyn was the subject of a check by the Perpignan police. First observation, he drives without holding a license. Second problem, he is transporting a good quantity of tobacco whose origin he cannot justify, in other words, goods which could be the result of a smuggling operation. A suspicion that grows when we realize that the driver was already convicted just a year ago for possession of tobacco without proof of origin and driving without a license. All that is needed is for the man to be immediately brought before the court for immediate appearance.

His lawyer, Me Koulli, requests more time to prepare his defense. The referral is granted automatically but a decision must nevertheless be made on possible continued detention between now and the next hearing.

“Do you have an address, sir? » asks the judge.
“No, I have had one in Spain since 2020, but I don’t remember it.”
“Oh? And in France ? Are you homeless? »
” Yes “.
“And what do you live on? “
“I work illegally.”
“You say you’re married, what’s your wife’s name?” »
“Lola, but I don’t know her last name anymore. I don’t remember his address.”

We suspect that in these conditions the prosecutor will request continued detention: “He is homeless and in an irregular situation, subject to an OQTF. He was released from prison in January and we already find him here…”

Me Koulli does not even attempt to plead for judicial review, he can only rely on the decision of the court, which sends the defendant back to prison until November 14, the date scheduled for his trial.
