Today, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially launched the draw for the preliminary round of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) “CAN TotalEnergies Maroc 2025”.
In a statement published on its website, CAF revealed that the event would take place in Cairo, marking the start of preparations for the next edition of the prestigious African competition.
Indeed, after the successful closing of the 34th edition of the CAN in Ivory Coast, all attention is now turning to the next edition. The draw for the preliminary round of the CAN-Morocco 2025 qualifiers is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 20, marking the start of an exciting new adventure for the teams involved.
Eight teams, among the lowest ranked according to the FIFA rankings, will have the opportunity to compete in this preliminary round. Among them, Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia and Eswatini, will have the opportunity to make their way to the group stage of the qualifiers.
The matches will be held back and forth during the FIFA window from March 18 to 26, 2024, in accordance with CAF instructions. At the end of these matches, the four victorious teams will join the 44 other exempt teams for the group stage of the qualifiers, in a fierce quest to secure their ticket to CAN-Morocco 2025.
