Espérance Tunis – Wydad Casablanca: analysis of the match

The Radès Olympic stadium is preparing to experience a day full of emotion this Wednesday, during the semi-final return of the African Football League between Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Forteresse Rouge. After a highly contested first leg which saw Wydad take the advantage (1-0) at the Mohammed-V stadium in Casablanca, everything remains to be played for this return leg. But before analyzing this promising meeting in depth, let’s first go back to the first leg.

At the Mohammed-V stadium, Wydad therefore took an option on qualification on Sunday thanks to a goal from Hicham Boussefiane in the 58th minute. However, this score does not accurately reflect the nature of the match. Indeed, Esperance Tunis, despite less possession, had its chances, notably through Rodrigues Silva and Ghaith Ouahabi. Unfortunately for them, Wydad goalkeeper Youssef El Motie was imperious throughout the match.

The Sang et Or, with their backs against the wall after the defeat in the first leg, will have to be offensive to hope to reverse the situation, as they did in the previous round against TP Mazembe (0-1, 3-0). With the support of their public, they will be keen to show another face and exploit the slightest flaws in the Moroccan defense. The key factor for them will be to capitalize on their chances, something they lacked in the first leg. With their advantage acquired in the first leg, the Reds will have to remain cautious. An overly defensive approach could put them in difficulty against a Tunisian team eager for revenge. On the other hand, a WAC away goal would seriously complicate Esperance’s task.
