Good News for Moroccan Drivers in Spain

In a significant development for Moroccan professional drivers, the Spanish government has approved a major reform regarding the mutual recognition of driving licenses with Morocco. This move will eliminate the need to take a prior theoretical exam for those seeking to practice in Spain.

The amendment relating to Moroccan driving licenses was sent to the General Court for final approval, marking a crucial step in cooperation between the two countries on traffic and transport, as reported by Europa Press.

The Spanish Council of Ministers expressly supported Spain’s commitment to strengthening the exchange of notes and agreements with Morocco, leading to a modification of previous agreements on the mutual recognition and exchange of national driving licenses.

This initiative aims to simplify and facilitate procedures for Moroccan professional drivers who must validate their licenses on Spanish territory. The amendment has already been applied provisionally since April 7. With this reform, the need to take theoretical and practical exams is abolished in most cases, with the exception of Moroccan drivers requesting the exchange of category C, C+E, D and D+E licenses in Spain.

These drivers will have to pass a driving test on roads open to public traffic, using vehicles corresponding to the required license categories. This modification aims to simplify the process while ensuring road safety.

Spain and Morocco are thus strengthening their cooperation in the fields of transport and traffic thanks to an important regulatory measure, which will serve the interests of drivers while preserving road safety.
