Rabat – The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco has today become a high place for the promotion of thought, scientific research and a privileged space for cultural exchanges between continents, affirmed His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

“A true ecosystem for the development of intellectual capacities and academic skills in the human and social sciences, the Academy contributes to the progression of research and the enhancement of the centuries-old historical and civilizational heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco,” underlined the Sovereign in a Message addressed to the members of the Academy, on the occasion of the opening of the first session of this prestigious institution, under its new configuration, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan.

So that the Academy can best carry out its missions, affirmed His Majesty the King, “We have worked since 2015 to make its structures operational, to renew its organizational architecture”.

This action was carried out in full agreement with the purposes and provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom, which aim to preserve the national identity by taking into account its Arab-Islamic, Amazigh, Saharo-Hasanian components and its African and Andalusian tributaries. , Hebrew and Mediterranean, continued the Sovereign in this Message which was read by Mr. Abdeljalil Lahjomri, perpetual secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco.

His Majesty the King further noted that the Academy is engaged in the effort of reflection on the problems and questions of today’s world, in the service of the scientific and cultural influence of the Kingdom.

“In the light of these data, we wanted to ensure that a new breath and a vigorous impulse were given to the Academy by providing it with a vision and new structures, by integrating new members and by assigning it projects and programs largely linked to our identity and open to international cultural experiences renowned in phase with new themes,” specified the Sovereign, noting that the new organizational architecture of the Academy should allow it to ensure management rational use of its organs and gain in efficiency and influence.

This reorganization, set out in the Dahir of February 2021, provides for “the integration, within the Academy, of the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco, the creation of the Higher Academic Body of Translation, the Academic Institute of Arts and the Foundation of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco for cultural cooperation,” said His Majesty the King.

In addition to promoting historical knowledge and renovating research methods on the heritage and history of Morocco, these bodies must pay particular attention to translation and the arts, two disciplines renowned for their central role in promoting contributions of Moroccan thought to contemporary knowledge, indicated the Sovereign.

The Academy will continue, thanks to this reorganization, to assert itself as a crossroads of dialogue, a meeting space between eminent thinkers and renowned scientists, with diverse specialties and centers of interest, underlined His Majesty Roi, noting that it will also be able to fully assume its role as a forum for exchanging views on contemporary issues.

“Having in mind the multidisciplinary mandate of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, we have proceeded with the appointment of new academicians, Moroccan and foreign, taking into consideration their varied backgrounds, their complementary specialties, their vast expertise and their proven experience” , announced the Sovereign.

Highlighting the Academy’s constant interest in safeguarding and promoting Moroccan heritage and celebrating illustrious figures of national thought, His Majesty the King recalled the creation within it of a chair dedicated to literature and to African arts, another to Andalusia and a third to comparative literatures.

“The desired goal is to strengthen the cognitive skills of young people as part of the project to support doctoral students from Moroccan universities, a project to which We attach particular interest,” underlined the Sovereign in this Message, expressing His deep conviction that all social progress is inseparable from cultural renewal and the necessary opening of academic spheres to the creative genius of young talents.

This youth capable of being creative and innovative in its relationship of consumption and production of knowledge linked to human and social disciplines, languages, sciences, letters and the arts, constitutes the backbone of human capital, added His Majesty the king.

The Sovereign did not fail, on this occasion, to welcome the choice of the main theme of this session: “the family and the crisis of values”, given its importance and its topicality, particularly in a world marked by the shaking of landmarks, and sometimes even by their pure and simple loss.

As a result, noted His Majesty the King, it is all the more necessary to deepen the reflection around this fundamental theme, to carry out a methodical and calm examination of the changes at work and their overall repercussions, in particular in terms of family cohesion and social solidarity.
