Imminent Heat in Morocco: What to Expect in the Next Few Days?

Moroccans should prepare for a rise in temperatures in the coming days, despite relatively moderate levels observed recently. According to the latest data from the Directorate of Meteorology, temperatures have not yet crossed the 30 degree Celsius mark, even with the official arrival of summer.

On Tuesday, the forecast indicates an intense heat wave in the southeast and interior regions of the country, while the east and interior plains will experience warm but bearable temperatures. Meteorologists also predict the formation of low clouds and fog in the morning and night over the northern and central Atlantic plains as well as the Mediterranean coast.

Fairly strong wind gusts are expected in the southern regions and on the central coasts, accompanied by generally high daytime temperatures. Nighttime temperatures will range between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius in the southeast, east and south of the desert provinces, and between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius in the Atlas and Rif Mountains, as well as between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius in the rest of the kingdom.

Dr. Fouad Zahraani, an expert in environmental sciences and sustainable development, highlighted the changing nature of the Moroccan climate, influenced by phenomena such as the updraft in Morocco bringing humid influences from the north and hot air masses from the Sahara affecting the southern regions.

Summer temperatures have been exacerbated by warming sea waters, leading to increased evaporation. Currently, a phase contrary to El Niño seems to be influencing the climate, with the Azores high pressure dictating the passage or blocking of cold air masses.

For the coming days, meteorologists predict an upward trend in temperatures, especially in the interior plains, east and south-east of Morocco. Low clouds and sporadic fog banks are anticipated in the northern and central plains as well as on the Mediterranean coast during the night and morning periods.

In conclusion, Dr. Zahraani dismissed predictions of a cooler summer this year, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by climate fluctuations. He cautioned against overly simplistic forecasts, stressing that the true implications of climate change could lead to periods of more extreme heat than expected.

This detailed weather analysis provides a comprehensive overview of current climate conditions and short-term forecasts in Morocco, highlighting the various factors that influence regional weather conditions.
