Increase in Minimum Wages in Morocco: New Data Revealed

In today’s constantly changing world, one of the major concerns of the Moroccan population is the increase in minimum wages. After the meeting of the government council, the official spokesperson of the government, the minister delegate to the head of government in charge of relations with Parliament and spokesman of the government, Mustapha Baytass, shared the latest data regarding this issue.

Mustapha Baytass spoke at a press conference following the government council meeting on Thursday 31 August. He announced that the Minister of Economic Integration, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Al-Skouri, would hold meetings with the Federation of Enterprises of Morocco, the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as the main trade unions. The aim of these meetings is to reconcile points of view on the increase in minimum wages.

During the council meeting, the Minister of Employment presented information on the planned increase in minimum wages, which should come into force next September. He also highlighted the directives of the Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, urging him to hold discussions with these entities in order to facilitate a consensus. He insisted on the importance of guaranteeing that all the parties respect the commitments made during the social dialogue.

Raising minimum wages in September is expected to be the focus of discussions as Minister of Economic Integration, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Al-Skouri, attends the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Moroccan Enterprises, which will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023.

The future of raising minimum wages in Morocco remains uncertain, but ongoing discussions between government, business and unions are a positive step towards resolving this critical issue for Moroccan workers.
