Increase in Social Assistance: Important Changes for 2025

Starting in January 2025, the Moroccan government will significantly increase direct social assistance to families, according to a recent announcement by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. The move, which comes as part of the 2025 Finance Bill, aims to strengthen support for the country’s most vulnerable households.

Concretely, families will benefit from an allowance of 250 dirhams per child for the first three children in school, under 6 years old or with disabilities. Children not in school will receive aid of 175 dirhams per month, while orphans on the paternal side will receive 375 dirhams, with a guaranteed monthly minimum of 500 dirhams per family. The total cost of this reform is estimated at 26.5 billion dirhams for the year 2025.

This measure directly affects approximately 3.8 million families, representing more than 5 million children, with a current budget of approximately 25 billion dirhams per year. To finance this increase, the government plans to redirect resources from various social programs and mobilize revenues from the solidarity contribution on corporate profits and income.

In addition, more than 5 million families, or more than 18 million citizens, are now registered in the unified social registry. This process aims to simplify access to social assistance programs and improve the efficiency of the system by better targeting beneficiaries.

The Executive reaffirms its commitment to improving the social safety net and ensuring that funds are used optimally to support the country’s most disadvantaged families.
