Intensification of Protest within Territorial Communities: New National Strike Announced
Employees of local authorities in Morocco have decided to take a new step in their mobilization against the Ministry of the Interior. The tripartite union, composed of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, the General Union of Workers of Morocco, and the Democratic Federation of Labor, declared a new national strike movement which will paralyze the sector for 48 hours, on Wednesday and Thursday December 27 and 28.
A Deep Disagreement on the New Staff Status
This decision follows the union’s categorical refusal to the “project for the new basic status of personnel in the sector” drawn up by the Ministry of the Interior. Union representatives denounce the ministry’s obstinacy in not responding to collective demands and in promoting the new personnel regulations, scheduled to be adopted in the coming days.
Call to Action and Central Rally
The union launched a call for mobilization by also announcing a central gathering of union officials in front of the headquarters of the general management of local authorities on Wednesday, December 27. This event aims to express their firm opposition to the ministerial project and to reaffirm their commitment to “the national battle for just and legitimate rights”.
The Voice of Employees: “An Inadequate Regulation”
Mustapha Bniyech, spokesperson for the National Coordination of Diploma Holders of Territorial Authorities, underlined the categorical rejection of staff towards the “draft fundamental law composed of 18 articles”, which they consider unsuitable for the realities of local authorities. The main demand remains “integration and retroactive regularization” according to the legal provisions in force.
Resolution of Pending Files: A Priority Requirement
Bniyech also insisted on the need to resolve outstanding files, particularly those of diploma holders, managers, administrative assistants, technical assistants and public officials. The implementation of previous commitments, such as the Memorandum of Understanding of December 25, 2019, is crucial to ease tensions within the sector.
Unshakeable Determination Despite Obstacles
Despite the repeated strikes that have shaken the sector for more than a month, local authority employees maintain their determination. The union insists on the importance of union unity to confront ministerial intransigence, emphasizing the similarity of demands between the different unions.
This new national strike marks a significant intensification of the conflict between local authority employees and the Ministry of the Interior. While tensions persist, the resolution of outstanding issues and constructive dialogue remain at the heart of the demands of workers in the sector. Developments in the situation will be closely monitored in the coming days.
