Mass Seizure of Chicken Waste Intended for Sheep Fattening
As part of a rigorous control operation carried out by the Royal Gendarmerie authorities, a significant seizure of chicken waste was made. No less than 7 tonnes of waste, suspected of being intended for the illegal fattening of sheep for Eid al-Adha, were intercepted.
According to information from official sources from the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA), the seizure took place after a large truck was subjected to careful inspection. The lack of adequate documentation and prior authorization from the competent ONSSA veterinary authorities for the transport of this waste led to their immediate seizure.
Chicken waste, often used illegally in fattening animals for consumption, is subject to strict regulation due to the public health risks it poses. Under current regulations, the transport and use of this waste requires prior authorization from the competent authorities, thus guaranteeing their traceability and compliance with health standards.
As Eid al-Adha approaches, ONSSA has intensified its control operations in sheep farms, emphasizing the importance of guaranteeing the quality of water, livestock feed and medicines used in these farms and fattening units. This recent seizure highlights the authorities’ continued efforts to ensure food safety and protect public health from illegal practices and associated risks.
