Rabat – Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, will always be an active player in all initiatives aimed at establishing a comprehensive and equitable peace guaranteeing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, affirmed Friday in Rabat , the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita.

“Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, will always be an active actor in all efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful, equitable and comprehensive solution guaranteeing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, on the basis of consensus, in accordance to international and Arab standards,” underlined Mr. Bourita who was speaking at a joint press briefing with the Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein Al-Sheikh.

In this sense, he highlighted Morocco’s constant position regarding the Palestinian cause, a “fundamental and crucial issue in the Kingdom’s foreign policy”, emphasizing the particular interest given to this issue by HM the King who has never ceased to express Morocco’s constant support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to the establishment of their State within the 1967 borders, with Al Quds-East as its capital, with the aim of preserving stability In the region.

Referring to the continued attack on the rights of the Palestinians, Mr. Bourita declared that Morocco, as part of its strategic choice in favor of peace and its relations with the Israeli side, ensures that it plays a role as promoter of peace. and to work to weaken the extremist parties who exploit the Palestinian cause for the purposes of one-upmanship rather than engaging in the search for solutions.

In this vein, he underlined Morocco’s firm opposition to any unilateral act likely to compromise prospects for peace, destroy the two-state solution and exacerbate extremism and violence in the region.

Regarding the situation in Al Quds, Mr. Bourita insisted on the special attention that His Majesty the King pays to the holy city, in his capacity as President of the Al Quds Committee, under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation , highlighting the Sovereign’s commitment to preserving the legal status and civilizational character of this city.

He also stressed that His Majesty the King ensures that diplomatic and political dynamics are in line with actions on the ground, recalling that the Bayt Mal Al Quds Acharif Agency works to support the resistance of the Maqdessis and preserve the Arab-Muslim identity of the holy city through concrete projects, more than 90% of whose funding comes from Morocco.

Mr. Bourita also mentioned the opening of the Moroccan Center in Al Quds as a space to support Palestinian civil society and initiatives aimed at preserving the identity of the city.

At the bilateral level, Mr. Bourita emphasized the directives of the leaders of the two countries to reactivate bilateral cooperation mechanisms, specifying that over the coming weeks, there will be an intensification of sectoral visits between the ministers of the two parties, in addition to the efforts that will be made for the holding of the Moroccan-Palestinian Joint Commission and the revision of the Moroccan-Palestinian legal framework.
