Morocco, France Set to Implement Strategic Partnership on Seawater Desalination
Rabat – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of a strategic partnership in seawater desalination was signed, on Tuesday in Rabat, between the State of Morocco, represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, and Veolia Environnement, represented by its CEO, Estelle Brachlianoff.
Under this agreement, Veolia will build the Rabat seawater desalination plant, with a capacity of 822,000 m3/day of drinking water (300 Mm3/year), at the most competitive possible cost per cubic meter of drinking water, with the power supply coming essentially from renewable energy sources.
The two parties undertake to work together to implement the project on the basis of the principles described in the MoU, and will seek to achieve a full price of 4.5 DH excl. tax/m3.
The signing of this agreement, which is part of Moroccan-French cooperation, took place on the sidelines of the French President’s State Visit to Morocco.
