Morocco, Zambia Seek to Deepen Parliamentary Cooperation

The delegation, from the Zambian Reform and Modernization Committee, is visiting Morocco to exchange experiences and explore joint initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral legislative ties, the House of Councilors said in a press release.

Both sides stressed the importance of joint programs, including parliamentary training, reciprocal visits, and coordination within continental and international parliamentary bodies. The talks also highlighted parliamentary diplomacy as a tool to advance broader South-South cooperation.

Haddad welcomed the momentum in Morocco-Zambia relations since HM King Mohammed VI’s visit to Lusaka in 2017, which laid the groundwork for cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, training and other priority sectors.

He also noted the significance of the latest joint commission meeting held in Laayoune in December 2024, calling it a strong sign of political will and deepening multidimensional ties. Haddad praised Zambia’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, underlined by the opening of a Zambian consulate in Laayoune in 2020.

He described parliamentary dialogue as a key pillar for strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation beyond the executive level, adding that Morocco is committed to inclusive governance and women’s political participation.

Frank Moyo, head of the Zambian delegation, commended Morocco as a model of legislative and institutional reform and expressed Zambia’s interest in learning from its experience.

He also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to elevating parliamentary ties to match the strength of political and economic relations.
