New disappointment for Walid Regragui – Media7

Real Madrid announced to Walid Regragui that they were refusing Brahim Diaz’s request to represent Morocco at the Paris Olympics this summer. This firm decision deprives Diaz, a rising star of the Moroccan national team, and his teammates of the Olympic competition.

According to an official source close to the federation, the Madrid club justified this refusal by Diaz’s inability to meet various similar obligations imposed by other European clubs. This measure is part of a trend observed among several big teams that restrict the participation of their professional players in such competitions, citing notable examples such as Kylian Mbappé and Eduardo Camavinga.

For their part, the coaches of the Moroccan national team, Tarik Sektioui and Walid Regragui, expressed their deep regret over this decision by Real Madrid. They had expressed their willingness to include Diaz in the Moroccan team for the Olympic Games, but this also depended on the final decisions of other European clubs regarding their players.

The Moroccan U-23 team, meanwhile, is preparing to face Iraq, Ukraine and Argentina in Group C of the Olympic Games. The final selections of the players who will represent Morocco will be announced later, depending on the final decisions taken by the European clubs.

This decision by Real Madrid marks a disappointment for Regragui and Moroccan supporters, while Diaz had been a key element in the qualifications for this prestigious competition, where the Atlas Lions hoped to shine under the national colors.
