PSG Saved by Kylian Mbappé – Media7

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé played a crucial role in helping his club avoid a serious looming financial crisis, according to reports by ‘L’Équipe’ newspaper. Thanks to its performance and strategic financial decisions, PSG managed to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play rules.

A Threat Averted

Paris Saint-Germain is no longer under threat of sanctions for non-compliance with financial fair play next season, “L’Équipe” revealed. In 2022, UEFA imposed a fine of 65 million euros on the Parisian club, including 55 million suspended, and gave it three years to rebalance its finances.

Cost reduction

The PSG administration has taken significant steps in reducing its salary costs, including parting ways with Lionel Messi and Neymar. Although the club recorded local losses of €110 million for the financial year ending June 30, 2023, it anticipates a significant improvement in its situation thanks to its run to the semi-finals of the Champions League and a financial agreement of 200 million euros with an investment fund.

The role of Mbappé

Mbappé was a key element in the financial stabilization of PSG. The possible departure of the striker should further reduce the club’s payroll, thus facilitating compliance with the rules of financial fair play. PSG also plans to receive 116.5 million euros, thus strengthening its budgetary stability.

Consequences Avoided

Failure to comply with Financial Fair Play rules could have resulted in harsh sanctions for PSG, such as reducing the number of players registered for the Champions League or even exclusion from European competitions. Thanks to the financial measures taken and the direct impact of Mbappé, PSG managed to avoid these sanctions and can now look to the future with more serenity.
