Return of rain and cold: Morocco under the effect of polar air
Morocco is preparing to face a notable drop in temperatures this week, marking a turning point in the season. Polar air masses from northern Europe are expected to settle in from Wednesday, causing a series of scattered precipitation, particularly in the north of the country.
According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, this meteorological transition will put an end to a long anticyclonic period, giving way to a more unstable climate. This phenomenon, linked to a shift of the jet stream towards the south, is characteristic of the autumn season which gradually gives way to winter.
A significant drop in temperatures expected
Maximum temperatures will drop around 17°C during the day, while minimums could drop as low as 10°C in some areas. In Casablanca, residents will have to deal with alternations of light rain and clearings, typical of winter atmospheric disturbances.
Between Wednesday and Thursday, the northern regions of the country will be the most impacted, with showers likely to relieve lands marked by prolonged drought. This atmospheric instability could also affect certain inland localities, although less markedly.
Welcome precipitation for water resources
Despite their sporadic nature, these rains represent a welcome opportunity for water resources. Hydraulic basins, particularly in areas affected by water stress, could benefit from these contributions to fill part of the deficits accumulated in recent months.
This return of precipitation, although modest, is seen as a relief for agriculture and local ecosystems. The authorities nevertheless remain cautious, stressing that the impact of this cold snap on water reserves will have to be monitored.
Call for vigilance and necessary adaptation
Faced with these changing climatic conditions, the General Directorate of Meteorology recommends caution. Citizens are invited to protect themselves against the cold, adapt their travel to weather conditions and stay informed with regular updates from weather services.
As winter approaches, this incursion of polar air serves as a reminder of the importance of preparation for the vagaries of the weather. Local authorities will continue to closely monitor developments to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
