Risks of Bottled Water Exposed to the Sun: The Ministry of Health Reacts

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, announced strict measures to ensure the quality and safety of bottled water after concerns about their exposure to the sun. The minister affirmed that his ministry is committed to “guaranteeing the quality and safety of bottled water available to consumers, through a rigorous control system covering all stages of production and distribution. »

Ait Taleb said health authorities monitor the waters on sale to ensure they are authorized and comply with good storage and display practices. Samples are regularly taken for analysis. In the event of non-compliance, corrective measures, which may include withdrawing the authorization of the offending company, are taken.

Reinforced Monitoring and Controls

The ministry also carries out field campaigns to verify compliance with standards and has taken measures to correct violations noted. Imported bottled waters are subject to special monitoring including verification of authorizations and health certificates from the country of origin, as well as sample analyses.

In response to a written question from MP Naima El Fatahi, Ait Taleb revealed that the ministry has granted around 116 authorizations for various types of bottled water over the last thirty years, including seven for natural mineral waters and one for sparkling natural mineral waters.

The minister insisted on the fact that monitoring of bottled water production units is carried out periodically to verify compliance with health safety standards. This includes examining the sanitary conditions of the source and water, implementing quality and safety management systems, and testing to verify compliance with microbiological and physicochemical standards.

Awareness campaigns

Awareness sessions are organized for workers in production units on good storage, transport and exposure practices, with emphasis on the importance of not exposing bottled water directly to the sun.

The response from the Minister of Health followed a written question asked last November by Naima El Fatahi of the parliamentary group for justice and development, who had highlighted the risks to public health of the exposure of bottled water to the sun.

These measures demonstrate the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring the quality of products available on the market.
