Ryanair: Bad surprise for Moroccan travelers!
Moroccan travelers, as well as those departing from Türkiye and Albania, will now have to print their boarding passes for flights with Ryanair. The low-cost airline announced this new measure which prohibits the use of digital cards in the airports of these countries.
According to a statement on the Ryanair website, Moroccan passengers must bring a paper boarding pass, to be presented at the check-in counter. This decision could pose a problem for those accustomed to digital cards, especially in an era where digitalization is becoming the norm.
Digital transition planned for May
Although this measure temporarily imposes constraints, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that paper maps will be phased out by next May. The company wants to move to a fully digital model via a mobile application. This initiative aims to reduce the hassle of paper documents and make the travel experience simpler and faster.
Currently, around 60% of Ryanair passengers already use digital boarding passes. However, airports in some countries, including Morocco, still impose restrictions on their use.
Increase in baggage fees
At the same time, Ryanair has also increased its baggage fees. Travelers who choose a priority upgrade at the airport now pay up to 740 Moroccan dirhams to add a bag after booking, up from 470 dirhams.
These changes are part of a global digitalization strategy, but they also show that certain constraints persist in specific airports, such as those in Morocco.
