Spain: Flood Alert with Risk of Impact in Morocco
The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a new severe weather warning for the Valencia region, with torrential rain, thunderstorms and snowfall expected from Tuesday. This meteorological episode could also affect the Mediterranean coast and the Atlantic coast of Morocco.
AEMET experts anticipate rainfall of 60 to 100 mm on the southern coast of Valencia as well as in the north of Alicante and Castellón. The arrival of a cold air mass from northern Europe is responsible for this phenomenon, which is expected to last until Friday, or even longer depending on conditions.
Increased risks of flooding and disruption
Faced with these forecasts, the Spanish Emergency Coordination Center has taken preventive measures. Teams are mobilized to monitor risk areas and limit the impacts of flooding. The population of Valencia and surrounding areas is called upon to exercise caution, while water management systems are reinforced.
Storm DANA, which recently occurred in Spain, has already caused significant human losses and destruction, heightening concerns around these new bad weather conditions.
Morocco under surveillance
Although the extent of the impact for Morocco is uncertain, meteorologists warn of a risk of the storm extending to Moroccan coastal regions, particularly the Mediterranean coastline. The authorities and the population of these areas are invited to remain vigilant and follow weather reports.
This alert system aims to limit material and human damage in a period when unpredictable climate changes increase the frequency of extreme weather phenomena.
