SRM replaces Lydec: Casablanca turns a page
Lydec, former manager of public services in Casablanca, officially ceased its activities on October 1. After years of criticism and controversy, the Société Régionale Multi-services (SRM) now takes control of the distribution of water, electricity and sanitation.
Lydec, a subsidiary of the French group Lyonnaise des Eaux, has never really won the hearts of the people of Casablanca. Bills considered exorbitant, recurring power cuts and clogged sewers during the rains have tarnished its image. “We paid a lot for poor service,” summarizes Amine, a resident of the city center.
Hopes placed in the SRM
Faced with the expiration of the Lydec contract, the Moroccan authorities decided to focus on a new structure: the SRM. This model, already tested in other cities in the country, promises more local and transparent management. “No more profits repatriated to France! », exclaims a resident of Mohammedia.
This change represents hope for many Casablancans. Tired of the dysfunctions, they now expect the SRM to put an end to decades of frustration.
A break with the past
The SRM arrives with a clear mission: to improve infrastructure and offer more reliable services. For many, it’s an opportunity to start fresh. But everyone remains cautious: will the promises be kept?
