Student Data Security at Risk: Hacking of the Agadir Faculty of Sciences Website

In a recent development, the official website of the Faculty of Sciences of Agadir, under the Ibn Zohr University, was the target of an intrusion by hackers. This incident has raised concerns among students about the security of their personal data.
According to available information, hackers managed to compromise the security of the site by leaving an alarming message on the home page. This message warned of the consequences of neglecting cyber security, emphasizing the importance of protecting student data.
In reaction to this incident, the dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Agadir, Ahmed Belmouden, confirmed the hacking of the site. He assured that the site is now operational, despite temporary interruptions linked to maintenance operations aimed at strengthening security.
However, the perpetrators of this intrusion have not yet been identified. The dean said this was a major cause for concern because no specific information was found, apart from the message left by the hackers on the site’s homepage.
Regarding the security of students’ personal data, Belmouden reassured that sensitive information is stored on an independent and secure server, which was not affected by the hack.
However, he stressed that this type of incident was not the result of a lack of IT security knowledge, but rather financial constraint. Securing the site, particularly the section dedicated to announcements, is often neglected due to budgetary constraints.
To prevent future similar incidents, the administration of Ibn Zohr University affirmed that it is actively working to strengthen the security of its official website and all platforms affiliated with different faculties.
