The African Ballon d’Or 2024: Here is the Date of the Ceremony – Media7

The end of 2024 is drawing near, and with it, the big moment for the finalists of the 2024 African Ballon d’Or. The long-awaited ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 16, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on October 28.

A Defining Moment for African Football

The African Player of the Year award is one of the most prestigious honors on the continent. This year, five players are fighting to win the grail. Among them, we find the Ivorian Simon Adindra (Brighton), African champion with the Elephants, the Guinean Serhou Guirassy (Dortmund), who shines with his prolificacy, and the Nigerian Ademola Lookman, hero of Atalanta in the Europa League last season. To these three names are added the South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns) and the Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi, recently crowned Golden Lion by the Moroccan newspaper Al Mountakhab.

All eyes are on Guirassy and Lookman, judged to be the big favorites for this 2024 edition. These players marked the year with their exceptional performances, and many are impatiently waiting to know the name of the winner.

Retrospective of Previous Editions

Last year, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen won this prestigious award. He succeeded Senegalese international Sadio Mané, who was crowned twice in a row, in 2019 and 2022, after the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This distinction was also won by the Egyptian Mohamed Salah in 2017 and 2018, thus equaling Mané.

The African Ballon d’Or is not the only prize that will be awarded during the CAF Awards 2024. In fact, seven other categories will reward the best elements of African football. Among these, we find the Goalkeeper of the Year, the Interclub Player of the Year, the Coach of the Year, as well as the Young Player of the Year, without forgetting the Club of the Year and National Team of the Year.

The Good Part in Women’s Football

There will also be a big tribute to women’s football with seven specific categories. These include Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Women’s National Team of the Year and Club of the Year. These awards highlight the growth and importance of women’s football in Africa, and help highlight the continent’s best talents.

The CAF Awards 2024 are set to be a memorable evening, celebrating not only individual exploits, but also the collective performances that marked the year in the world of African football.
