Rabat – The government has taken, over the last two years, a series of measures to implement the official character of the Amazigh language, government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday.
Responding to questions from journalists during the press briefing following the weekly meeting of the Governing Council, Mr. Baitas stressed that this project represents a “constitutional commitment of the Kingdom on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI”, noting that the government is working towards its gradual implementation.
He recalled, in this context, the official launch of projects relating to the strengthening of the use of the Amazigh language in public administrations and its integration in various areas of public life.
Mr. Baitas noted, in this sense, that the reception service in the Amazigh language has been set up in several public administrations, through the mobilization of 460 reception agents responsible for advising and guiding Amazigh-speaking users, with the aim of facilitating their access to public services, in addition to the inclusion of the Amazigh language on signage within administrations and public establishments.
In addition, a service for receiving telephone calls in the Amazigh language has also been set up in nine call centers under certain ministerial departments and public establishments which experience a high influx of users, he added, noting the mobilization of 63 agents responsible for telephone communication in the Amazigh language.
The Governing Council approved on Thursday two draft decrees establishing the list of paid public holidays and non-working public holidays, as part of the implementation of the High Royal Instructions to declare the Amazigh New Year, namely the 14 January, official national paid holiday.
