Rabat – The positive treatment of petitions submitted to public authorities is capable of strengthening citizen confidence in this mechanism and lightening the burden weighing on government actors, said Thursday the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, spokesperson word of the government, Mustapha Baitas.

Responding to questions from journalists during a press briefing after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council, Mr. Baitas estimated that the record for submitting petitions is “very low”, emphasizing the importance of encouraging associations to organize training in this area and to intensify cooperation between the government and parliament for the realization of the demands contained in these petitions.

He added that the draft decree establishing the composition, responsibilities and operating procedures of the petitions committee, adopted Thursday by the Governing Council, includes new amendments aimed at simplifying the conditions for exercising the right to petition public authorities, in addition to the adoption of digitalization in this matter with the aim of facilitating the collection of signatures of people supporting the petition and the submission of these petitions to the authorities concerned.

Responding also to a question on the governance of support provided to associations, Mr. Baitas announced that a draft decree is in preparation, setting out the conditions for benefiting from public support intended for associations, specifying that this draft decree aims to make the publication of the call for tenders mandatory on a single electronic portal and facilitate associations’ access to government support through requests formulated electronically.

It will also be a question of allowing the government department concerned to monitor the forms of payment of support and to develop prospective programs relating to the amounts of support to be mobilized, added Mr. Baitas.
