According to Abdelrazak Chabi, president of the Casablanca Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market Association, the increase in tomato prices was mainly due to increased exports to Africa via Mauritania. Chabi explains that this export policy had previously led to higher prices, limiting Moroccans’ access to affordable local produce. The recent decline could reflect a response to this policy, as well as a stabilization of domestic production.
