U.S. Reaffirmation of Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Its Sahara, ‘Major’ Endorsement at Highest International Level -Spanish Political Analyst

Madrid – The United States’ reaffirmation of its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara constitutes “a major endorsement at the highest international level,” stated Spanish political analyst Pedro Ignacio Altamirano.

This recognition, which is “clear” and unequivocal, once again confirms “the first-rate legal, political, and social legitimacy” of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, Altamirano told MAP.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated this position in a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Washington on Tuesday.

According to the Spanish expert, this U.S. reaffirmation should serve as “a strong signal” to those parties who remain entrenched in their positions instead of favoring dialogue.

Highlighting the preeminence of Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a solution to this artificial regional conflict, Altamirano emphasized that it represents “a visionary initiative.”

Furthermore, he underscored the socio-economic development of the southern provinces and the many investment opportunities they offer.
