Visa for France: new restrictions for Moroccans in 2025
France is tightening the conditions for obtaining the “Schengen” visa, announcing stricter rules which directly affect Moroccan applicants and those from other Maghreb countries. The new measures aim to strengthen control of submitted files, sparked by recent diplomatic tensions.
According to media reports, French authorities will apply more rigorous criteria for studying visa applications from 2025. These restrictions include increased requirements for financial proof and housing certifications. Submitted documents will also be subject to increased scrutiny, increasing obstacles for many Moroccan applicants.
This hardening takes place in a fragile political climate. In recent months, France has significantly reduced the number of visas granted to nationals of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Paris justifies this decision by a lack of cooperation from these countries in the return of nationals in an irregular situation.
The new restrictions have caused a wave of discontent among Moroccans. Many see it as a discriminatory measure which complicates access to France for legitimate reasons such as tourism, work or family visits. Voices are being raised to denounce a policy deemed unfair and call for a review of current practices.
These changes raise questions about the evolution of relations between France and the Maghreb countries. With the rise of demands for fairer procedures and respectful application of Schengen area commitments, dialogue between the two parties seems essential to ease tensions and restore trust.
