Walid Regragui discusses the Ziyech-Diaz case – Media7

During the press conference on Sunday, September 8, 2024, Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui addressed several key topics regarding the Moroccan national team. He notably spoke about the Hakim Ziyech – Brahim Diaz duo and Osame Sahraoui’s choice to represent Morocco, rather than Norway.

Regragui confirmed that the national team is working to create synergy on the pitch between Ziyech and Diaz. Despite the ongoing trials, he stressed that there is still work to be done to find the ideal positions for these two players in his offensive system. “For now, there is still work to be done on the offensive side and we need more games to refine this understanding,” he said.

The coach said his goal is to improve the fluidity and efficiency of the Moroccan attack, capitalizing on the skills of these two talents. “I like having great players in my team, but we need time to find the winning formula,” he added.

Sahraoui opts for Morocco despite competition

At the same time, Regragui spoke about the decision of Osame Sahraoui, a young player of Norwegian origin, to join the ranks of Morocco. After much thought, Sahraoui decided to wear the colours of the Atlas Lions, despite being approached by Norway. “I have been watching Sahraoui for a year. We had a good discussion and he has now chosen Morocco, fully aware of the strong competition in the team,” he said.

Sahraoui, who plays for Lille and will soon play in the Champions League, impressed Regragui with his commitment. This career choice is seen as a great victory for the Moroccan team, which sees him as a promising player.

Regragui also said that such decisions have become more frequent, highlighting a positive development in the way young talents opt for Morocco. “Before, I had to take a plane to convince some players. Today, they come on their own, motivated to fight for a place,” he concluded.

With an offensive under construction and young talents like Sahraoui joining the team, Walid Regragui remains optimistic about the future of the national team, while acknowledging that adjustments are still necessary to achieve the objectives set.
