Weather Alert: Extreme Heatwave Approaching, Up to 47°C Expected in Morocco
An intense heatwave will hit several regions of Morocco starting this Saturday, with temperatures reaching up to 47 degrees Celsius, according to forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology. Authorities have issued an orange alert bulletin to warn the population of these extreme weather conditions, which are expected to persist until Monday.
The heat will particularly affect the provinces of Fqih Ben Salah, Béni Mellal, Settat, Marrakech, Kalaat Sraghna, Rehamna, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Guelmim, Aousserd, Boujdour, Es-Smara and Oued Eddahab. Temperatures in these regions will range between 43 and 47 degrees, with a peak expected between Saturday and Sunday.
The provinces of Ouezzane, Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Taza, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Khénifra, Azilal, Khouribga and Al Haouz will not be spared either, with temperatures forecast to be between 42 and 44 degrees during the weekend.
Health officials warn of health risks, especially for older adults, children, and people with chronic illnesses. People are advised to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and seek cool spaces to escape the heat.
On Monday, the situation is unlikely to improve, with temperatures still very high in the provinces of Aousserd, Es-Smara, Boujdour and Oued Eddahab, thus confirming the persistence of this exceptional heat wave.
Faced with this situation, experts stress that these extreme weather phenomena could become more and more frequent in the context of global warming. Citizens are therefore invited to follow safety instructions and remain vigilant in the face of this rise in temperatures.
