Yassine Bounou, among the highest paid goalkeepers in the world – Media7

Al Hilal’s Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is now in the top 10 highest-paid goalkeepers in the world. Ranked eighth, he earns £168,370 per week, or £8.8 million per year, according to a report by Sports Boom.

The report reveals that Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer is in first place with £353,577 per week. Al Ahly’s Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is in sixth place with £185,207 per week.

The Saudi Pro League, where Bounou and Mendy play, has two goalkeepers in this ranking. Spain’s La Liga dominates with three representatives, while the German Bundesliga and France’s Ligue 1 each have two.

No English Premier League goalkeepers make the top 10. This absence is notable, as the Premier League is often associated with high salaries. However, this ranking highlights the growing importance of goalkeepers in other European and international leagues.

The report also states that while strikers are often the highest paid, goalkeepers are starting to negotiate higher salaries, reflecting their vital role in team performance. Bounou, at 32, shows that age is no barrier to securing a lucrative contract.

The emergence of the Saudi Pro League as a competitive league on the world stage, capable of attracting players with astronomical contracts, is a key trend in modern football.
