Some 268 children not in contact with the law will be transferred to social protection establishments (Hayar) – Media7

Fez – Some 268 children, who are not in contact with the law, will be transferred from child protection centers to social protection establishments, said Monday the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and of the Family, Aawatif Hayar.

This decision is part of the commitments made by the ministry as part of monitoring the results of the meetings held in June 2023, the minister declared to MAP on the occasion of the national meeting devoted to monitoring the implementation work of the National Conference on the protection of children in contact with the law, organized in Fez by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and with the support of the European Union.

She noted that a committee was created to identify children who are in child protection centers and who are not in contact with the law, specifying that as part of the partnership between the Ministry of Solidarity , Social Integration and Family, the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, these children will be transferred to social protection establishments under the supervision of National Assistance.

Ms. Hayar explained that the objective of this operation is “not to keep these children in child protection centers, which have special conditions, given that they are in a difficult situation and are not delinquent children”.

This achievement is “very important” and will make it possible to place these children in social protection institutions in order to care for them in conditions consistent with their situation, she detailed.

The official noted that in application of the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI who continues to pay particular attention to the protection of the rights of the child, as well as the personal involvement of Her Royal Highness the Princess Lalla Meryem, president of the National Observatory for Children’s Rights (ONDE), the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, in collaboration with the presidency of the public prosecutor, the Ministry of Youth and several partners, participated in a meeting to monitor the implementation of the results of the meeting held in June 2023 on improving the situation of children and children’s rights, as well as the implementation of an integrated public child protection policy, in particular integrated territorial child protection authorities.

On this occasion, the ministry reviewed the progress made since the meetings of June 2023, during which several government sectors, including youth, health, national education and others, signed the protocol for the protection of on children relating to integrated territorial agencies for child protection, she said.

The minister also welcomed the involvement of all the stakeholders concerned in defining responsibilities and monitoring the care of children in difficult situations, specifying that this protocol was also part of the cooperation with ONDE and the presidency of the public prosecutor.

This two-day meeting includes plenary sessions during which the state of play of the different stages will be presented, as well as the most important issues and challenges related to childhood issues.
